The North Carolina Department of Public Safety and Pender Correctional Institution have strict rules and regulations for entering the prison. These conditions apply to everyone who enters the institution including staff, volunteers, visitors, and vendors.
Everyone must be able to clear both the metal detector and the cell phone sensor. If you have a medical device that sets off either detector, you must present documentation from a doctor identifying the device and where it is located. In these cases, you will be subject to a wand search. Everyone will also be subject to a pat-down search. If you cannot clear the detectors, it is the decision of the Officer in Charge (OIC) as to whether you are allowed to enter. Kairos volunteers will not challenge the decision of the OIC.
Everyone must present a picture ID (driver's license or passport). Volunteers attending Prayer and Share or the Monthly Reunion must also present a current blue card. No volunteers are allowed to enter for Prayer and Share or the Monthly Reunion if they forget their card or if it is expired.
Clothing must be suitable. No open-toed shoes, sandals, or flip-flops. Pants should worn at the waistline (no low riders). No tank tops or spaghetti strap tops. No clothing that is see-through or has any obscene language. No spandex or other type of tight fitting clothing. Be aware of the following items that have been of issue:
